On October 29th and 30th, as part of The Maltese Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (May-November 2025), the Seminar “Malta in the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe” was held in Birgu.
The Phoenicians’ Route had a strong presence at this event, being the first Cultural Route of the Council of Europe to have members in Malta.
In addition to the keynote speech given by Dr Karsten Xuereb, member of our Scientific Committee, on the topic ‘Malta and Cultural Routes – a reflection on Europe and the Mediterranean with Malta and Cultural Routes at the centre, with particular reference to the Phoenicians’. Route”, the Director of the Phoenicians’ Route, Dr Antonio Barone, gave a presentation on the numerous initiatives and activities carried out in Malta since 2009 and the perspectives for the future.
During the session dedicated to Maltese stakeholders, Dr Mario Fava, President of the Local Councils’ Association Malta and member of the Steering Committee of the Phoenicians’ Route, spoke about how the organisation collaborates virtuously in the Cultural Route.
Yesterday afternoon, an ‘Open space networking and collaboration’ event was also held with Maltese stakeholders interested in joining the various Cultural Routes. As far as we are concerned, these include Heritage Malta, Malta Tourism Authority, Marsaxlokk Heritage NGO and others.
Many Maltese members and partners of the Phoenicians’ Route were present in the audience.
