From June 22nd to 24th the Creative Europe Desk meeting was held in Gibellina – Italy’s Capital of Contemporary Art – and in Selinunte (Sicily). Thanks to the collaboration of the Phoenicians’ Route – Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, a working meeting was organised between the Managers and Representatives of other certified Cultural Routes operating in the Mediterranean.
In particular, on Wednesday June 24th, delegates from the Cultural Routes had the opportunity to present their activities to representatives from the Ministries of Cyprus, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain and Tunisia, as well as to representatives of the European Union.
A wide range of Mediterranean cooperation initiatives were presented, including the European Capitals of Culture: Larnaca 2030 and Victoria – Malta 2031, which involve direct collaboration with the Phoenicians’ Route.
The Orestiadi Foundation and the Selinunte, Cave di Cusa and Pantelleria Archaeological Park, members of the Phoenicians’ Route, also collaborated on the event.
On June 24th, a representative from the Sicily Region – Department of Tourism, another institutional member of our Cultural Route – also attended the proceedings.
Several initiatives were agreed upon in various countries and with representatives of the European Union, particularly in the run-up to the 40th Anniversary of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe programme, which will be celebrated in 2027.
