ANCIENT STREETS OF ITALY
Author: Osvaldo Bevilacqua

The Via Francigena that cut Italy from North to South, the Salaria that cut it from East to West, the Phoenician Route that touched the fascinating coasts of its islands: more than three streets, three streets, three paths created and modified by time, as well as by the courage and faith of pilgrims, traders, travellers. Even in the darkest periods, they have always been key communication routes for those who had the initiative to get going, and made the fortune of countries, cities, entire areas of the peninsula. Osvaldo Bevilacqua, drawing on the wealth of meetings and discoveries made with “Sereno Variabile”, invites us to set out on these roads where the genius of the Romans and the spirituality of St. Francis are intertwined, fascinating stories of yesterday and today’s winning ideas … We will thus rediscover the artistic and cultural traces of the incalculable value left by kings, popes and emperors on the Via dei Franchi, the symbols and places of the most precious spice of antiquity on the Via del Sale, and the mysteries of a forgotten people, the Phoenicians, between breath-taking beaches and surprising finds. A walk through villages and characters, traditions and flavours that are enjoyed slowly, with the pace and awareness of the ancient wanderer. Since walking on the ancient streets of Italy does not only mean bringing to light a treasure of curiosities and beauties, but, above all, giving yourself time and peace to find ourselves and our history.
