More than 700 people were enchanted by the intense words of the great Chilean writer Luis Sepúlveda, star of the final evening of the traveling exhibition “Sea Landscapes”, sponsored by the Tourism, Sport and Entertainment Department of Sicily Region chaired by Anthony Barbagallo, in context of the interregional project “Mare e Miniere di Mare”, in collaboration with the Phoenicians’ Route and TAOBUK Taormina Book Festival, directed by Antonella Ferrara.
The “Sea Landscapes” project reflects the cultural syncretism of Sicily and increases it in the name of literature, music and theater. Starting from the seaside town, from the suggestions of great writers and the many cultural influences from the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs and Normans was explored the island through cultural meetings and five tourist itineraries.
The identification of the routes has been curated by the Phoenicians’ Route, whose Director Antonio Barone presented in Catania the most emblematic itinerary, Journey to Sicily by Goethe and the Grand Tour, inspired by the stages of the journey undertaken by the writer in 1787, telling a region little known at the time, helping to create the myth.
“With Sea Landscapes – he said Barbagallo – we opened in Sicily a new door for the flow of visitors attracted by the cultural tourism: great testimonials of literature and the arts were promoted extraordinarily beautiful coastal routes. These are leading projects through which we aim to deseasonalise the tourist and cultural offer“.
Was an increase of emotions thanks to exciting performances of the saxophonist Francesco Cafiso, Sicilian excellence in the world that has demonstrated, to the surprise of the spectators, to be also an excellent pianist. To the voice and the perfect interpretation of the actor Mariano Rigillo the task of making vibrate the words of the new novel “The End of History” that Sepúlveda presented in national premiere, in dialogue with the journalist Alberto Bilà.
The success of last evening confirmed the extraordinarily positive results of “Sea Landscapes” that, during the previous four meetings, has made stops in Palermo, Syracuse, Agrigento and Marsala, involving authors and national and international artists: Tahar Ben Jelloun, Marco Aime, Danilo Rea, Edoardo Siravo, Santo Piazzese, Gaetano Savatteri, Giovanni Brizzi, Francesco Buzzurro, David Coco, Matteo Collura, Vittorio Sgarbi, Dino Rubino, Pippo Pattavina, Dacia Maraini, Felice Cavallaro, Lucia Sardo and Nello Toscano Trio. A winning formula that will be repeated and increased for the year 2017.
During the evening the Councillor Anthony Barbagallo has handed to Luis Sepúlveda the Sicily Award for the excellence of his literary production and civil and human values that is able to convey.
