“The whole of Sicily is a fantastic dimension . How do you live without Imagination ?” Leonardo Sciascia
After the summer break and the success of the first date of June with the Franco-Moroccan writer Tahar Ben Jelloun, returns the prestigious tourist-literary review Landscapes Sea, the traveling project in the name of literature, music and theater, exploring Sicily through five cultural encounters with personalities of the highest level and five itineraries of great beauty, starting from the seaside city and the many cultural influences from the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs and Normans.
Let’s start Saturday, October 1 in Marsala (at 20.00 at the Municipal Theater Eliodoro Sollima, Street Theatre, 1) with a new evening dedicated to the dialogue between different cultures and the imaginative capacity as the path of cultural growth and interaction.
The Santo Piazzese writer, who likes to call himself a biologist lent to writing, will be on stage with the journalist Gaetano Savatteri, author of investigations of Cosa Nostra, novels and essays, and the historian Giovanni Brizzi, Roman historian.
The event will draw inspiration from the words of the Recalmuto genius, Leonardo Sciascia, “The whole of Sicily is a fantastic dimension. How do you live without Imagination?” And the collection The dream and the landing. Stories of foreigners in Sicily (Sellerio, 2009), signed by Maria Attanasio, Giosuè Calaciura, Davide Camarrone, Santo Piazzese, Gaetano Savatteri, Lilia Zaouali, dedicated to Sicily as a crossroads of sea roads, travel crossings, landings and ground different cultures. The versatile acoustic guitarist Francesco Buzzurro, who knows how to combine the classical with jazz and popular music, the task of transforming event suggestions in notes, suggestions that will give voice through the reading of the text, the actor David Coco, loved by the audience for theater, cinema and television.
The evening will be an opportunity to present the second route of Seascapes: Phoenicians and Greeks in Sicily, landscapes, atmospheres and cultures. Syracuse, Agrigento, Taormina, Naxos, Tindari, Morgantina, Selinunte and Segesta (for western Greeks) and always Selinunte and Segesta, as well as Mozia-Marsala, Erice, Palermo, Solunto, Sambuca di Sicilia, Pantelleria and the Egadi Islands (for the Phoenician-Punic), tell a crucial historical period of Sicily through its vestiges. Through these places tourists can discover all that is related to navigation and seamanship and the conspicuous archaeological and cultural heritage greek and Phoenician overlooking the coastline, or remains hidden below sea level.
Sea Landscapes is sponsored by Department of Tourism Sports and Entertainment of Sicily Region, chaired by Anthony Emanuele Barbagallo who has strongly backed the initiative, in the context of the interregional project Sea and sea mines that will harness the natural excellence linked to coastal resources with their hinterland. The art direction is entrusted to Antonella Ferrara, President of Taobuk-Taormina International Book Festival.
