The Magna Grecia Network and the Phoenicians’ Route

Between 24 and 26 September 2016 in Apulia were held some important meetings of the Magna Grecia Network adhering to the Phoenicians’ Route – Cultural Route of the Council of Europe.

On 24 September in Copertino (Lecce), was held an interesting day of work and reflections on the theme “Cultural Heritage and Experiential Tourism. New territorial development opportunities”, organized by the Cultural and Arts Heritage Hearts-in Association agreement with University of Salento, Department of Cultural Heritage – Master Degree in History of Art and Cultural Heritage, MiBACT – Museums of Puglia, Angioino Castle of Copertino, the City of Copertino, which saw a large participation of the public.

During the last session Anna Trono, Professor at the University of Salento, and Antonio Barone, Director of the Phoenicians’ Route, highlighted the role of experiential tourism as a tool for local development of the territories.

Sunday, September 25, in the Council Chamber of the City of Torchiarolo was held a meeting organized by Terre dei Messapi Association and Il Giunco Association, founding members of the Network Magna Grecia, in collaboration with the GAL Land of Messapi. The meeting was attended by delegations of Campania, representing also other delegations of Calabria and Basilicata, as a coordination meeting of the associations members of the Network Magna Grecia.

Monday, September 26, at the University of Salento in Lecce, was held a strategy meeting with the associations already members of the Network Magna Grecia, coordinated by Fabio Mitrotti, at the presence of the Director of Phoenicians’ Route and the HeArts Association, which is also a spin-off activity promoted by prof. Anna Trono in collaboration with The Phoenicians’ Route.

The association, made up of students and former students of the University of Salento, has expressed willingness to join the Network Magna Grecia for assistance and support in the start up phase of initiatives.
