“Unique and unrepeatable exemplary. A military genius, able to read the thoughts of the strategist opponent and to share with his troops the most appalling hardships (…) that unlike Napoleon, has left no monuments to themselves.
Inspired by the book written in 2008 by Paolo Rumiz (Hannibal. A Journey) the title of the exhibition sponsored and organized by the Municipality of Barletta with MiBACT, Agency for National Cohesion, Puglia Region and the Phoenicians’ Route, which will be inaugurated on August 2 in the spaces of the Castle, on the anniversary of the battle of Cannae (August 2, 216 BC ).
The exhibition is conceived as a journey of images through the places traveled by the Carthaginian General Hannibal Barca, one of the greatest generals of antiquity, and filtered through his personality and his culture. Among the exhibits on display has granted an important role the bust of Hannibal of the Quirinale Gallery, for the first time in Puglia.
From 20 September 2016 will be able to admire in the exhibition an exceptional piece for the first time in Italy after the historic Venice exhibition of 1988 (The Phoenicians, Palazzo Grassi): from the Bardo Museum in Tunis, the beautiful gilded bronze armor, perhaps belonged to a mercenary Italic, found in 1909 in a tomb in the Tunisian desert.
