International Iter Vitis – Phoenicians’ Route Awards 2023

From the collaboration of two important and historic Cultural Routes certified by the
Council of Europe, The Phoenicians’ Route and Iter Vitis Route, has given rise to an important international Award that aims to support and reward initiatives and
innovation in the field of cultural heritage and wine-growing, the promotion of responsible, creative, experiential and sustainable forms of tourism in the member countries of the two international networks.

The III Edition was celebrated in Cabras (Sardinia) during the XVI EuroMediterranean Dialogue of the Phoenicians’ Route – 2023 General Assembly and Celebration of the XX Anniversary of the Phoenicians’ Route (2003-2023), hosted by the Mont’e Prama Foundation.

The Award was divided into 8 categories, in addition to the joint Award with Iter Vitis Route.

The event received the High Patronage of the European Parliament, the Italian Ministries of Culture, Tourism, Foreign Affairs and of International Cooperation.

For The Phoenicians’ Route

1. 1. 1. 1. Joint Award Iter Vitis – Phoenicians’ Route 2023 III Edition
        Winner: Mont’e Prama Foundation (Italy)
        For the strong commitment of Mont’e Prama Foundation to the Phoenicians’ Route, for the projects already carried out and currently underway for the promotion, communication and dissemination of the Route and its themes (festivals, conferences, fairs etc.).Special mentions
        Phoenicians’ Route Awards 2023
        – Municipality of Fano
        – Municipality of Porto Torres
        For the strong commitment of the two municipalities to the Phoenicians’ Route, hosting the events of the Route in their territory. In Fano, the Kick-off Meeting and historical re-enactments such as “Fanum Fortunae – La Fano dei Cesari”; in Porto Torres the Spin-off that will take place on October 20-21.
        
        Best practice of innovative and creative valorisation of cultural heritage
        Winner: Municipality of Cittanova – Novigrad (Croatia)
        For its strong commitment to the realization of the innovative project for the creation of an Interpretation Centre about the Sea and its ancient knowledge – which will also become the Hub and Interpretation Centre of the Phoenicians’ Route – and for its active role in the development of the Phoenicians’ Route Smart Way in Istria.
        
        Best practice for higher education applied to the Phoenicians’ Route
        Winner: Aldo Moro University of Bari (Italy)
        For its remarkable commitment to the Route since 2019, for its scientific support and for the organisation of a Transversal Skills Workshop on the “Creation of cultural routes for the sustainable development”, one of the modules included in the wide training offer of the Department of Humanistic Research and Innovation of the Aldo Moro University of Bari, in collaboration with the Phoenicians’ Route.
        
        Innovative and creative enhancement of a Museum
        Winner: National Museum of Archaeology, Heritage Malta
        Heritage Malta is a Network of over 90 museums, national monuments and underwater sites, including 7 UNESCO sites, bringing culture and people together by facilitating interpretation and accessibility, both physical and intellectual one, and creating spaces for the exchange of ideas and knowledge. With its professional team of art curators, archaeologists, architects, digital and scientific experts, and restorers. The Phoenicians’ Route wants to reward, in particular, the commitment to the setting up of the Phoenician-Punic section of the National Archaeological Museum, an excellent example of storytelling and communication in the museum.
        
        Innovative and creative enhancement activities carried out by a Foundation
        Winner: Aquileia Foundation (Italy)
        For the active role of connection and reference that the Foundation plays for the Phoenicians’ Route in its territory; for the activities carried out, in particular the 2023 Aquileia Film Festival, and currently underway, which have favoured the promotion, communication and dissemination of the Route and its mission.
        
        Innovative and creative enhancement activities carried out by an Archaeological Park
        Winner: Archaeological Park of Selinunte, Cave di Cusa and Pantelleria (Italy)
        For the intense activity that consecrates years of commitment and research in the protection and enhancement of the cultural, archaeological, and natural heritage of the Archaeological Park of Selinunte, Cave di Cusa and Pantelleria; for its active role as site of countless activities and events created in collaboration with the Phoenicians’ Route in the last twenty years.
        
        Best practice of innovative and creative valorisation carried out in research
        Winner: International Campus of Excellence in Marine Science CEI-MAR – University of Cadiz (Spain)
        For the admirable commitment as Campus of Excellence in Marine Science, created by the University of Cadiz in collaboration with other three Spanish universities (Granada, Huelva e Malaga), the University of the Algarve in Portugal and the Abdelmalek Essaâdi University in Morocco. For having fostered the participation of the Phoenicians’ Route in relevant events (InnovAzul International Meeting on the Blue Economy and the 1st Ibero-American Congress of Young Sea Researchers) aimed at disseminating the ongoing joint projects and to spread the themes of the Route in general. For the fundamental role that the University of Cadiz plays as reference and union with other local actors (Diputacion, Municipalities and port authority) in the development and creation of Smart Ways and other strategies of the Phoenicians’ Route.
        
        Special AWARD for the PERSONALITY who has distinguished himself for his activity in the archaeological, cultural and enhancement fields
        Winner: Alberto Samonà
        For the role of journalist, active in communication applied to cultural heritage, for the political-administrative role carried out as Councillor for Cultural Heritage of the Sicilian Region, showing sensitivity for the Phoenicians’ Route and its values. A collaboration that we hope will continue in current and future roles.
        
        Special Award to the European Institute of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, in the person of its Director, Dr Stefano Dominioni
        For the constant support, backing and encouragement the Institute has given to the Phoenicians’ Route since its recognition in 2003. We look forward to continuing the fruitful cooperation between our Cultural Route and the European Institute of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe for the benefit of our common interests, as well as for further joint activities and projects.
